EDC to Waive Electricity Bill for Residents of Run Ta Ek and Pak Sneng

SIEM REAP: Électricité du Cambodge (EDC) has announced that it will not charge electricity bills to residents of Run Ta Ek village and Pak Sneng Development Zone in Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province. Waiving these electricity fees can benefit more than 30,000 people, saving them more than 3 million riel.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that the electricity cables drawn to the front of people's houses are free while residents still need to be responsible for the electricity used in the house.

"The electricity used at the fence of the house, there is no charge, but from there (the fence) into the house, both the wiring and lamps, [you] pay for [yourselves],” said the Prime Minister.

The cost of waiving this electricity bill is more than US $6 million for EDC.

The Prime Minister made this announcement during a meeting with the residents of Run Ta Ek village on Friday morning, 21 October 2022.

Between 25 August and 20 October 2022, a total of 9,134 families have relocated to Run Ta Ek village, Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap Province and Pak Sneng Development Zone located in Pak Sneng Chas Village, Pak Sneng Commune, Angkor Thom District, Siem Reap Province.

Currently, there are 5,865 families who have volunteered to relocate themselves from the Angkor resort area in order to preserve the heritage site. These families have received compensation from the Royal Government to live in Run Ta Ek village and Pak Sneng Development Zone.
